Abstract
This study investigated the wood anatomical characteristics, wood basic density and fiber morphologies of Cyclobalanopsis glauca natural forest in Yangshuo County of Guilin in Guangxi, as well as in Jianghua Yao Autonomous County and Dao County of Yongzhou in Hunan. The radial variation and provenance differences of wood properties were discussed. The results showed that the average wood basic density, fiber length, fiber width, wall thickness, ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter and ratio of fiber length to width of the 3 provenances were in the ranges of 0.754-0.763 g·cm-3, 1 113.9-1 180.8 μm, 17.4-18.2 μm, 7.0-7.4 μm, 4.4-4.9 and 61.7- 64.8, respectively. Along the radial direction from pith to bark, the length, width, wall thickness and ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter of the wood fibers tended to be stable after a significant increase, while the basic density and ratio of fiber length to width showed no obvious variations. The wood from the 3 provenances showed similar anatomical characteristics. There were no significant differences in wood basic density, fiber length, ratio of wall thickness to lumen diameter and ratio of fiber length to width between the 3 provenances at the α=0.05 test level, while significant differences appeared in fiber width between Yangshuo and other provenances and in wall thickness between Yangshuo and Jianghua.
