Selection and Breeding of Superior Clones of Gardenia jasminoides

  • In 2009, 2 superior individuals of Gardenia jasminoides were selected through primary selection, re-election, and final selection. In 2014, the progeny test was conducted in Jinggu and Linxiang of Yunnan Province. For 2 consecutive years, the plant height, ground diameter, crown width, flowering amount, fruiting amount, adaptability, and phenology were observed. Analyed and compared its main contents. The results show that the trees of 'Bangyong No.3'and 'Bangyong No.4' are medium-sized, with strong adaptability, high-yield comprehensive traits, rich in contents, and excellent clones, which are identified by improved varieties. Among them, the yield of fresh fruit per plant of 'Bangyong No.3' increases by 56.3% and 55.3%, respectively. The volatile oil content in the flowers increases by 41.67%, 29.71% and 54.99%, respectively. The yellow pigment color and the geniposide of the fruit are increased. Saponins increased by 10.26%, 75.36%, and 6.65%, respectively, compared with CK. The yield of fresh fruit per plant of 'Bangyong No.4'increases by 50.0% and 52.6%, respectively. The volatile oil, linalool and basilene in flowers increases by 50.00%, 27.30% and 22.24%, respectively, the yellow pigment color, geniposide and saponin in the fruit increased by 6.89%, 17.76% and 4.98%, respectively, compared with CK.
