Estimation of Wood Chip Volume in Fungi Bags

  • Hardwoods from natural forests were felled in southwest of Yunnan to produce fungi bags for the production of mushrooms, but it was also unable to trace legal responsibility because lack of wood volume. The Southwest Forestry University in collaboration with Yunnan Forest Protection Bureau developed a method to estimate consumption of wood chips used for mushroom production. Four batches of fungi bags with a total of 52 fungi bags were sampled from 3 companies in southwest of Yunnan Province. A method was developed based on the average basic wood density and moisture content to calculate wood volume. A table also was produced to quickly estimate wood volume for mushroom production in southwest of Yunnan Province.
