The Topographic Effect on the Growth and Stem-form Quality of Manglietia yuyuanensis and Optimization of Microhabitat Configuration

  • We studied the topographic and microhabitat effect on the growth and stem-form quality of Manglietia yuyuanensis, taking the 9 years old M.yuyuanensis artificial pure forest in Shaxian County of Fujian Province as the research object. The slope direction, slope position and its combination effect on growth and stem-form quality characteristics of M.yuyuanensis were investigated and analyzed. A technical method for the optimization of microhabitat configuration was proposed. The results showed that the tree height, BHD, crown width, individual volume, height under living branch, stem fullness and stem straightness of M.yuyuanensis had significant slope direction effect. The tree height, BHD, crown width, individual volume, height under living branch and stem fullness of M.yuyuanensis had significant slope position effect and the interaction between slope direction and slope position. There is no significant slope position effect on stem straightness of M.yuyuanensis. The growth and quality traits such as tree height, BHD, crown width, individual volume, height under living branch, stem fullness and straightness of M.yuyuanensis had significant microhabitat effect. It is necessary to optimize the microhabitat configuration of M.yuyuanensis. The study concluded that the ideal configuration microhabitat types were the middle and downhill slopes of the shady slopes and the downhill slope of the semi sunny slopes of M.yuyuanensis artificial pure plantation. The growth gain of the ideal configuration microhabitat types is 5.89%-192.36% and stem-form quality gain is 1.23%-42.63%. It is proved that optimization of microhabitat configuration can significantly improve the tree height, BHD, crown width, individual volume, height under living branch and stem fullness after verification, promoted high yield and high quality of timber of M.yuyuanensis.
