Effects of Different Culture Mediums and Containers on the Growth of Bougainvillea spectabilis

  • To explore the suitable culture medium and container of Bougainvillea spectabilis in overpass greening application in this experiment, B.spectabilis 'Crimsonlake' was used as testing material which combined with the glass-steel-flowerpots and the plastic-flowerpots. Through the determination of mixed matrix physical and chemical properties, plant biomass, the content of N、P、K and chlorophyll, the effect of different culture mediums and containers on the growth of B.spectabilis 'Crimsonlake'were analyzed. Results show that matrix A3 (V (the garden soil):V (peat):V (perlite):V (river sand)=2:4:3:1) is obviously superior to the other 3 substrates for better promoting the growth of B.spectabilis 'Crimsonlake'. The container B2(glass-steel-flowerpots) is much more beneficial for the biomass accumulation and root growth of the underground part of "B.spectabilis 'Crimsonlake'". It also demonstrates that the interaction effect of base material and container type is mainly shown in the dry weight, root length and root volume of the overground part. To sum up, the base material A3 and container B2 are more conductive to promoting the growth of B.spectabilis 'Crimsonlake'.
