The Physical Properties of Melamine-Formaldehyde Resin Modified with Hyperbranch Polymers

  • To investigate the blending modification of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resins using hyperbranched polymer polyamidoamines (PAMAMs), and the preparation of impregnated paper and veneer-faced decorative boards using MF resins before and after modification. In respects of physical properties, resins, impregnated paper and decorative boards were characterized, respectively. The results showed that PAMAMs reduced the viscosity of MF resin adhesives, shortened curing time and significantly prolonged storage period. In addition, PAMAMs increased the tensile strength and elongation resistance of resin-impregnated paper by 43% and 100%, respectively. Physical property analysis of decorative boards with modified resin-impregnated paper demonstrated that the surface of decorative boards was more resistant to stains, steam cycle and wear, and surface tensile strength was improved significantly.
