Abstract
The effect of different ages and tree height on drying characteristics of Mytilaria laosensis timber was analyzed by using 100 ℃ test method and it’s the most suitable drying technology was proposed. The results showed that the number of short surface check, the length of long surface check, and distortion raise distinctly while cross section deformation decreases gradually as the age increase. At the same age, the distortion of the top wood is severer than that of the bottom wood, but the result of warp is opposite. The early cracking degree of M. laosensis is grade 5, the internal cracking is grade 2, the section deformation is grade 3, the distortion is grade 5, the warp deformation is grade 2 and the drying speed is grade 2. By using the drying process given in this paper, the moisture content of 30mm thickness different ages M.laosensis timber decreased from 76.78% to 6.02%, and the drying period was 16.12 d and the comprehensive quality grade of dry defects is grade II, which can meet the quality requirements of solid wood products.
