Analysis on the Safety Pattern of Rare Wild Animal Protection in Guidong

  • Taking Guidong County of Hunan Province as an example, the rare wild animals protection area was first delimited. The species distribution area as ecological sources, and used in the Minimum Cumulative Resistance model to establish the resistance surface, then the species migration corridors and strategic points were identified. Finally, the security pattern of rare wild animals protection was constructed which can offer suggestions for rare wild animals protection. The results showed that the protection area of rare wild animals mainly composed of woodland and wetland, and the area is 819.52 km2. Four strategic points and four ecological corridors are identified by the construction of resistance surface, and the total length of corridors is 186.58 km. According to the distribution of strategic points, ecological corridors and rare wild animals reserve, a protective framework combining 'strategic points-ecological corridors-rare wild animals reserve' is constructed to provide scientific reference for wildlife conservation program.
