Abstract
In this research, veneers of Taxodium hybrid were reinforced by phenol formaldehyde resin. And reinforced veneers and untreated veneers were composited with different lamination structure to manufacture laminated veneer lumber (LVL). And then the physical and mechanical properties were studied. Results indicated that phenol formaldehyde resin penetrated into the wood through pore structures and strengthen the veneer. The mechanical properties of laminated veneer lumber with the composite structure (the top and the bottom layers were laminated with PF reinforced veneer or the top, bottom, and core layers were laminated with PF reinforced veneer) were obviously improved. After the enhancement treatment, the modulus of rupture and the horizontal shear strength of the laminated veneer lumber met the national standard for structure, respectively. And the modulus of elasticity of some special structured LVL had been improved to meet the requirements of the national standard for structural laminated veneer lumber.
