Abstract
The pretreatments of sealing method, water storage method and ring cutting method were adopted for the felled Eucalyptus robusta to release the residual stress of log, improve the lumber recovery and quality. The sawn timber was inspected and measured, and the effects of 3 kinds of saw cutting pretreatment technologies on lumber recovery and quality of E. robusta specifications were analyzed. The findings indicated that after pretreatment, E. robusta logs were sawn into boards, and the lumber recovery was: ring cutting method 55.51% > control 52.66% > sealing method 52.42% > water storage method 51.11%. The grade recovery was: sealing method of high-quality boards (including special grade lumber and first grade lumber) 36.97% > ring cutting method of high-quality boards 36.03% > control of high-quality boards 35.8% > water storage method of high-quality boards 17.35%. Considering the wood logs recovery and grade lumber recovery, the sawn pretreatment technology of ring cutting method is suitable for the E. robusta.
