Abstract
In order to master the properties of Beilschmiedia fordii wood and to provide reference for its utilization, the physical and mechanical properties of Beilschmiedia fordii wood was determined, analyzed and evaluated in this research. The results showed that the Beilschmiedia fordii wood belonged to medium density grade and the over−dried shrinkage coefficient was in small category. The basic, air dried and over dried densities were 0.649, 0.738 g/cm3 and 0.700 g/cm3, respectively. Radial, tangential and volume shrinkage ratios of air dried samples were 2.982%, 4.239% and 7.242% and the difference of over−dried shrinkage was 1.421. The values of hardness on cross, tangential and radial surfaces were 7110, 5010 N and 4770 N respectively. The compression strength parallel to grain, values of bending strength, modulus of elasticity and impact toughness were 58.9, 127.1 MPa, 12.81 GPa and 100 KJ/m2. The comprehensive quality coefficient of Beilschmiedia fordii wood was 2520×105 Pa, belonging to high−grade wood; and the comprehensive strength of wood was 186 MPa, belonging to High−strength wood.
