Effects of Different Cultivation Substrates on Growth Characteristics and Total Triterpenoid Accumulation of Taiwanofungus camphoratus

  • In this study, the basic potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium with different concentrations of Cinnamomum cassia and Phoebe zhennan tender branches, tender leaves, and a mixture of branches and leaves, was used for Taiwanofungus camphoratus culture medium to explore its effect on the growth characteristics of T. camphoratus mycelium and total triterpenoid accumulation. The results showed that adding C. cassia and P. zhennan substrates in PDA medium significantly affected the growth, biomass and total triterpene accumulation of T. camphoratus. Regarding the effect of substrate concentration, adding 16-32 g·L−1 of C. cassia tender branches significantly promoted the mycelium growth and total triterpene accumulation of T. camphoratus, and the total triterpene content was significantly increased by 142.67-207.85% compared with the control. Additionally, 4 g·L−1 C. cassia branches and leaves mixture and 8 g·L−1 P. zhennan tender leaves substrates significantly increased the fresh weight and dry weight of T. camphoratus by 196.00% and 112.50%, respectively. Comparing the type of added substrate organs, it was found that compared with tender leaves and branches and leaves mixture substrate, the addition of C. cassia and P. zhennan tender branches effectively promoted the growth of T. camphoratus mycelium. Furthermore, C. cassia tender branches and P. zhennan branches and leaves mixture effectively improved the total triterpenoid content of T. camphoratus. When comparing the substrates added, it was observed that adding C. cassia substrate was more effective in promoting the growth characteristics, fresh weight and total triterpene content of T. camphoratus, while the P. zhennan substrate was more favorable for the dry weight accumulation of T. camphoratus. In conclusion, the results indicated that adding C. cassia tender branches at a concentration of 16-32 g·L−1 to the PDA medium had the optimal effect on promoting the growth characteristics of T. camphoratus and had the most significant effect on enhancing total triterpenoid accumulation.
