Effect of trehalose on the growth and physiological response of Asian lily seedlings under low temperature

  • Using Asian lily seedlings as experimental materials, the effect of trehalose (0, 15, 30, 45, 60 mmol/L) on the growth of Asian lily seedlings was studied by spraying the leaves and then subjecting them under 4 ℃ low temperature. The research results indicated that spraying appropriate concentrations of trehalose on lily leaves promoted the growth of Asian lily seedlings under low temperature. Treatment with 15 mmol/L trehalose can increase the dry and fresh qualities of lily aboveground and underground parts, significantly increasing the net growth rate of lily plant height, The fresh qualities of plant increased by 41.86% and the net growth rate of plant height increased by 1.43 times; The treatment with trehalose increased the content of chlorophyll and carotenoids in Asian lily leaves, alleviated the degradation of photosynthetic pigments, The total amount of chlorophyll increased by 57.34%, and it was beneficial for the growth of lily seedlings and the accumulation of plant biomass; It can enhance the content of 25.50% soluble protein, 48.19% soluble sugar, proline, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes POD, SOD, CAT, and APX in Asian lily leaves, reduce the content of H2O2, O2−, and MDA, promote the accumulation of osmoregulatory substances, thereby improving the cold resistance of Asian lilies and alleviating the damage of low temperature stress to lily seedlings to a certain extent. The results of this study provide safe and efficient technical support for early spring low-temperature cultivation of Asian lilies.
