Analysis of Ant Fauna in Yinggeling Subsection of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park

  • To reveal the ant fauna characteristics of the Yinggeling area in Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, ant specimens were collected through random plot surveys from July to August 2022, followed by faunal analysis. A collection of 72 ant species was amassed, encompassing 40 distinct genera and spanning across 7 subfamilies. The Oriental realm, as delineated within the global zoogeographic framework, encompasses a distribution of both genera and species. Within China's zoogeographic regions, the South China region exhibited the highest species richness (72 species), followed by the Southwest region (63 species), while no distribution was found in the Mongolian-Xinjiang region. Regarding distribution types, the Oriental + Palaearctic type accounted for the highest proportion (41.67%), followed by the South China + Southwest + Central China type (29.17%). The ant fauna of Yinggeling demonstrates typical Oriental characteristics with significant Palaearctic elements, while also exhibiting other faunal features. Within China, it shows close affinities with the Southwest and Central China regions.
