Analysis on Storm Surge Resistant Ability of Different Pine Tree Species

  • The Pinus spp. trees planted in the coastal area as shelterbelts in Yantai area, Shandong Province were classified into four types i.e. withered death type, dying type, slightly damaged type and the normal type according to the damage extent after storm surge. The survey indicated that the resistant ability to storm surge of Pinus thunbergii was the best among the five pine species, whose damage rate was 10%, while the local provenances were superior to Liaoning provenance. P. rigida and P. rigida × P. taeda took the second place in terms of storm surge resistance. The storm surge resistant ability of P. densiflora and P. taeda was the weakest, whose damage rate reached 100%. The variance analysis showed that the growth of P. thunbergii was significantly higher than P. rigida × P. taeda and P. rigida.
