Building of National Forest City with Consideration of Multiple Benefits in Aksu, Xinjiang

  • Akesu, a county leveled city located in south Xinjiang at the edge of Takelamagan Desert grasped the great chance of economic reform and that much more attention was paid to ecological and environmental development by Chinese national government, emphasized simultaneously multiple benefits of ecology, economy and society by making better use of the situation. By taking advantages of the plentiful sunshine and appropriate temperature, by means of developing fruit and nut industries and planting trees in large scales through motivating the power of the whole society, and rationally regulating the planting structure and industrial structure, Akesu, the border city beyond north of the Great Wall as an oasis, has been turned into a National Forest City full of fragrance of fruits and melons with beautiful landscape under severe environmental conditions characterized by drought, severe winter, salinealkali soil and sand storm. It is an inspiring example for cities with similar poor conditions to build National Forest City in China.
