Progeny Test and Selection of 36 families of Cupressus torulosa Obtained by Openpollination

  • A progeny test of 8 provenances and 36 openpollinated families of Cupressus torulosa in Yunnan Province was done. The results showed that there were variations in basal diameter, seedling height and crown diameter among the provenances and families, and there were significant differences or extremely significant differences in the above three growth indices among the provenances and families. The provenance heritability of basal diameter, seedling height and crown diameter were 0.82, 0.62, 0.84 individually, and the family heritability of these three indices were 0.76, 0.76, 0.77 respectively. The three traits were strongly controlled by provenance and family effect. The genetic gain of the basal diameter, seedling height and crown breadth were 11.36%, 5.78% and 10.1% respectively if two super provenances were selected. Whereas the genetic gain of the three growth indices were 16.23%, 16.22% and 17.46% individually if four super families were selected.
