Occurrence and Control of Brown Patch Disease of Phoenix canariensis

  • Brown patch disease of Phoenix canariensis is caused by the fungus of Cylindrocladium colhounii. It infected many species in the Palmae family. It was observed that the pathogen fungus Cylindrocladium colhounii developed best under the optimum temperature from 25℃ to 35℃, the brown patch disease occurred from Match to November, whereas its occurrence peak took place between May to August each year. The experiments both in the laboratory and in the open air with potted seedlings indicated that the disease could be effectively controlled with three kinds of fungicides, i.e., 50% of Carbendazim WP, 25% of Prochloraz EC and 50% of Yingna WP. The results showed that the prevention effect could reach 100% and the average treatment effect was over 60% by spraying these pesticides on the potted seedlings.
