A Preliminary Report on Superior Native Chestnut Germplasm Resources in Sichuan Province

Taking nut quality, appearance, yield per plant as the key indicators for plus trees, the preliminary selection, semifinal selection and the final selection of superior native chestnut germplasm resources were carried out in the major chestnut production areas of Sichuan Province from 2006 to 2008. Having referred to the National Chestnut Standards (GB10475—89), National Standards for High Yield Chestnut Plantation (GB/T 9982—1988) and some local standards, the selection criteria for chestnut plus trees in Sichuan Province were formulated based on the field surveys. Finally, 8 individual superior germplasm materials were screened out by comprehensive assessments with the multiple traits.
