Effect of Plant Growth Retardant on Growth and Ornamental Characteristics of Zamioculcas zamiifolia

  • The effects of two kinds of plant growth retardant in different concentrations on the growth and ornamental characters of Zamioculcas zamiifolia were studied with seedlings grown in 20cm large pots. The results indicated that the width, thickness and fresh weight of the leaflet was increased to a certain extent after the plants were treated by each of the eight treatments compared to the control. However, the length of the leaflet, number of the newly emerged buds and the chlorophyll content were not significantly influenced by the treatments with plant growth retardants. Comprehensively speaking, the best effect was obtained by treatment No.2 (root drenched with 200 mg/L for three times), which could improve the ornamental characters of the Zamioculcas zamiifolia leaflet shape, but did not impact on the newly emerged bud number and the chlorophyll content of the seedlings.
