Habitat Suitability Assessment for Hume’s Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae) in Nanhua Part of Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve

  • Based on the field investigations and GIS, habitat suitability of Syrmaticus humiae in the Nanhua part of Ailaoshan National Nature Reserve was assessed. The results showed that, the suitable habitat for Syrmaticus humiae was 204138 hm2 (806% of the total area); the less suitable habitat was 277584 hm2 (1096%); rarely suitable habitat was 1861281 hm2 (7349%); and the unsuitable habitat was 189699 hm2 (749%) when human disturbances were not taken into account. However, when influenced by human activities, less suitable habitat and suitable habitat decreased by 2730%和949%, respectively, while the area of rarely habitat and unsuitable habitat increased by 434%和068%. The present study showed that human activities have a strong impact on the habitat of Syrmaticus humiae.
