A Comparative Study on Physiological and Biochemical Indexes of Grafted and NonGrafted Saplings of Miaofeng Mountain Rose

  • Taking different cultivars of rose as root stocks to be grafted with Miaofeng Mountain rose, a comparative experiment study on the photosynthetic and physiochemical indexes between the grafted and selfrooted saplings of Miaofeng Mountain rose was conducted through potted experiment in the greenhouse. The results showed that the diurnal variation of Pn of the saplings with different rootstocks was similar to that of the selfrooted seedlings with one peak curve, and the peak occurred between 11 am and 2 pm of the day time. Among the combinations, ‘B+D’ showed the highest Pn value and the selfrooted seedlings had the lowest Pn value. Based on the comprehensive analyses on the indexes of the maximum photosynthetic rate (Pn), light compensation point (LCP), light saturation point (LSP), apparent quantum yield (AQY) and water use efficiency (WUE), the combination ‘B+D’ showed the best photosynthetic properties while the combination ‘A+D’ was the last. Regarding the indexes of photosynthetic pigment content, the results also revealed that the combination ‘C+D’ had the lowest values whereas the selfrooted saplings had the highest values. The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT) in the leaves of the grafted saplings were slightly higher than those of the selfrooted seedlings, whereas the MDA content of the grafted saplings was lower.
