Abstract
Based on the TM satellite data collected in 1985, 1995 and ETM satellite data obtained in 2006, the characteristics of landscape ecological security pattern and the spatial and temporal change of the features in Chengdu Municipality were studied with GIS technology under the guidance of the related theories and methods. The results showed that the overall landscape ecological security level in Chengdu Municipality was unevenly distributed during 1985-2006, the mountainous and highhilly areas in the northwestern part and most of the lowhilly areas to the east of the central plain area belonged to the high security zone, whereas the central plain area and the eastern lowhilly area belonged to the low security zone. The landscape ecological security status in 1985 was the best, and the high security area accounted for 68.04%. During 1985-1995, the ecological security status was deteriorated, most of the high security zone was converted into moderate security area. The ecological security status was improved from 1995 to 2006, most of the moderate security area again turned into high security zone.
