Molecular Basis and Genetic Regulation of Plant Flower Color

  • The color of plant is one of the key phenotypic characteristics to determine the ornamental value for horticultural plants. Taking the study results of Tulipa flower pigmentation as examples, the molecular mechanism related to flower color determination was introduced, and the research advances in genetic regulation for flower pigmentation were elaborated. It was proven that flower color regulation is not only tissue specific, but also even cell specific. It was proposed to further the studies relevant to genetic determination and regulation mechanisms for flower pigmentation in order to accelerate the progress for breeding the desirable flower varieties.
