Effect of Salt Stress on Nutrient Absorption and Soluble Sugar Content of Pittosporum pentandrum Seedlings

  • The contents of nutrients and soluble sugar of the 1a pot grown Pittosporum pentandrum seedlings which were kept in the green house and treated with salt solutions with 5 concentrations, i.e., 0 g/kg, 6g/kg, 9g/kg, 12g/kg and 15 g/kg dry weight of soil were measured. The results showed that the contents of Na+ increased, whereas the contents of K+, Ca2+, Mg2+ contents in the seedling leaves and roots, as well as the contents of Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn and soluble sugar decreased with the increment of salt solution concentration. It was showed that the low concentration salt stress could promote the seedlings to absorb P and N nutrient elements, while the high concentration salt stress would inhibit the nutrient absorption.
