Substrate Selection for Bombax ceiba Seedling Cultivation

  • 9 different types of substrates were tested for Bombax ceiba seedling pot culture to screen out the right one by comparing the effect of the varied substrates on the growth of B. ceiba seedlings. It was found that the substrates presented significant influences on the survival rate, height, basal diameter and biomass of the seedlings. The study showed that B. ceiba seedlings could grow better in the substrates with bigger bulk density, less moisture content, total porosity, and higher pH value. Further analyses revealed that the substrates No.7 (50% yellow soil + 50% waterlogged compost soil) and No.3 (50% peat soil + 50% waterlogged compost soil) were more suitable for the cultivation of B. ceiba seedlings.
