Effect of Moisture Content on the Modulus of Elasticity of the FingerJoints of PFLVL

  • The influence of moisture content (MC) on the static bending modulus of elasticity (MOE) of the fingerjoints of PF bonded LVL of poplar (PFLVL) was studied. The results showed that along with the increase of MC, the dropping ratio of the MOE for the fingerjointed PFLVL was significantly higher than that of the nonjointed PFLVL, and the dropping ratio of the MOE for the vertical joint was greater than that of for the horizontal joint the MOE losing rate of the vertical joint the horizontal joint and the nonjoint of the PFLVL was 3673%, 34.05% and 3074% respectively when the moisture content was increased from 12% to 25%. The results showed that the MOE loss of the PFLVL caused by moisture absorption accounted for about 20% of the total MOE loss, and the MOE loss of the vertical joint PFLVL caused by moisture absorption was less than that of the horizontal joint PFLVL.
