Analysis on Difference in Height Growth of Phyllostachys edulis Pure and Mixed Stands

  • To explore the differences in height growth of bamboo shoot and young bamboo plantation of different types of Phyllostachys edulis stands, the height growth property and its variation of bamboo shoot and young bamboo plantation were surveyed and the height growth rhythm equation was simulated by selecting plots of P edulis pure stand, P edulis-Cunninghamia lanceolata mixed stand and P edulis-broadleaved mixed stand with consistent site condition and management level as study objects. The results showed that P edulis stand types had different influences on its height growth characteristics, and the management of P edulis pure stand had distinct impact on the height growth, which was expressed by the shortened height growth period for bamboo shoot and young bamboo plants, and the increased relative height of P edulis pure stand. With growth time extending, height growth of bamboo shoot and young bamboo plantation and daily growth rate in the three stand types all showed the quick-slow-quick rhythm However, the height of bamboo shoot and young bamboo plantation, and the daily growth rate for P edulis pure stand were greater than those of in the other mixed stands at the rising period and early peak period of height growth stage, while those indexes of P edulis pure stand decreased sharply at the middle and later peak periods of height growth stage. The height of bamboo plants in P edulis pure stand was greater than that of in the mixed stands at the peak period of height growth stage. The height of bamboo plants and the daily growth rate of the two types of mixed stands tended to be close. The height growth rhythm of bamboo shoot and young bamboo plantations for different P edulis stands might be well expressed by Logistic equation.
