Stem Growth Rhythm of Magnolia biloba in Different Stands

  • Four kinds of Magnolia stands at Phoebe County Hufang Down in Fujian Province were investigated and sampled by the method of stem analysis in 2012 And then, the growth rhythms of pure and mixed stands of Magnolia biloba, fir, green bamboo, Camellia oleifera were studied The result showed that the current annual increment of DBH of mixed stands reached a maximum in the third year, 3 years before pure stand. The current annual increment of tree height and volume got to the peak in the 2nd year and 8th-9th year, respectively, 3 year earlier than pure stand. Moreover, in the first decade, the average increment of DBH, tree height and volume of mixed stands (123cm、142m、00037m3) were higher than that in pure stand ( 081cm、100m、00027m3). Meanwhile, in fir, green bamboo and Camellia oleifera mixed stands, the current annual and average increment of DBH, height and volume reached the maximum at the same time, but varied in detailed values. Among them, fir>green bamboo>Camellia oleifera mixed stands. The result indicated that Magnolia biloba and fir mixed stands could be getting the best result, which promote the growth of Magnolia officinalis, and followed by Magnolia officinalis and green bamboo mixed stand, Magnolia officinalis and Camellia oleifera mixed stand. The worse result was pure stand.
