Information Platform Construction of Core Habitat Management for Hume′s Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae) in Dazhongshan, Yunnan

  • Hume′s Pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae) is the first class Chinese national protected wild bird and near threatened species in IUCN Red List. In order to manage the habitat information of Hume′s Pheasant more effectively and provided conservation strategy for this wild bird, this study preliminarily constructed an information platform of core habitat management for Hume′s Pheasant. According to the result of habitat suitability assessment for Hume′s Pheasant, the core habitat was determined by using Excel and Access database to sort and edit the data of habitats and samples for Hume′s Pheasant since 2004. Finally, the Information Platform of Core Habitat Management for Hume′s Pheasant was constructed by GIS. The results showed that the core habitat of Hume′s Pheasant was lumped and fragmented which was disadvantage for the gene flow among populations. It was urgent to find a new way to protect the core habitat. This platform combined with data storage, management, inquiry, visualization. It also held with the function of data analysis. Openness and analytic function of the platform would be convenient for the relevant personnel in reserve and other researchers to input their datum into the platform, which would make the datum of the platform more abundant and diverse, the value in use of the platform would be enhanced. Finally, the platform would provide strong support for making protection strategies for Hume′s Pheasant.
