Abstract: There are plenty of bamboos in Yunnan province.It's estimated about 28 genera and nearly 160 species being recorded.Bamboos as ornamental purpose,in general case,should possess following characters:1.The sympodial bamboo is better than monopodial.2.With a moderate or smaller straight calmus.3.Otherwise,the culms with peculiar internodes such as:swelled zigzaged or striped.4.A upper branched culm;The branches usually slender and uniform in size.5.With smaller graceful leaves.A brif description is given on the following species.1.Thyrsostachys siamensis.2.Bambusa vulgaris var.striata.3.Qiongzhuea tumidinoda.4.Chimonobambusa spp.5.Ampelocalamus spp.6.Fargesia,yushania spp.7.Sinocalamus affinis f.flavidoriuens.8.Bambusa multiplex f,alphonse.9.Chimonocalamus spp.
