Abstract: Parameters of the main gaseous pollutants absorbed by different types of public welfare forests in Kunming urban area were calculated through literature consultation and classifying analysis.Furthermore, the quantity of gaseous pollutants absorbed annually by the public welfare forests in Kunming was calculated, and the relevant economic benefits were evaluated.Meanwhile, the balance between gaseous pollution discharge and absorption in Kunming was checked by comparing the total air pollution absorbing capacity by public welfare forests with total amount of various gaseous pollutants discharged meanwhile in Kunming so as to assess if the air quality in Kunming could generally meet the demands of economic and social development.The aim of this study was to provide the afforestation of ecological public welfare forests in Kunming city with a sound scientific basis.
