Abstract:
The community characteristics and growth procedure of the natural forest and plantation of
Lindera communis were compared through investigation. The results indicated that there were significant differences in the indexes studied between the differently originated forests. The plantation of
Lindera communis had greater coverage, tidier forest form and simpler structure, whereas the natural forest of
Lindera communis had untidier forest form, multi-layered canopy, greater under-story biomass because it was secondary stand from sprouts. There was also significant difference between the natural forest and plantation of
Lindera communis in DBH, height and standing volume growth features. These growth indexes of the plantation in the early stage after planting were greater and the fast-growing-phase of DBH and height growth indexes came earlier than those of the natural forest. The fast-growing-phase and growth peak of standing volume of the
Lindera communis plantation came earlier so the plantation reached its quantitative maturity stage earlier than that of the natural forest.
