Abstract:
The chromosomal karyotype of
Kaloula verrucosa was analyzed by samples collected on the campus of Southwest Forestry College, it was showed by the results that the diploid number was 28 (2
n=28) and the arm number was 56 (
NF=56). The chromosomes could be matched into 14 homologous pairs, including 4 pairs of large chromosomes and 10 pairs of small ones. No difference in chromosomes was observed between the male and the female individuals. A comparison of karyotypes among species of genus
Kaloula and those of other genera in family Microhylidae was made. All four species of
Kaloula shared characteristics that the third chromosome was submetacentric and the secondary constriction appeared in the long arm of the fifth chromosome, which could be valuable indices to distinguish the genus
Kaloula from other genera in the family of Microhylidae.
