Abstract:
The color and gloss of rubberwood before and after painting were studied by heat treatment and furfuryl alcohol impregnation with PE or PU varnish. The results showed that color difference of modified rubberwood varied from 12 to 24, while color difference with PE painting was a little bigger than that with PU. The lightness
L* of modified woods and control woods decreased, while red-green index and yellow-blue index varied with the method and degree of modification. The red-green index and yellow-blue index of the thermal modified wood increased obviously at 170 ℃, and decreased at 210 ℃. The red-green index and yellow-blue index of Furfuryl alcohol modified material with high rate of gaining weight decreased significantly, while red-green index of that with low rate of gaining weight basically unchanged, and yellow-blue index decreased significantly. Modification and painting can fill the gap between the gloss along the grain and transverse the grain, while gloss of painted samples with PE and PU varnish doesn't show significant difference.
