Abstract:
Condensed tannin and hydroxy methyl furfuryl alcohol prepared in laboratory were mixed to obtain a new bio-thermosetting wood adhesive named tannin-hydroxyl methyl furfuryl alcohol resin (TF
2). The basic physical and chemical properties, internal bond strength and thickness swelling rate of particleboards were detected. The curing propertied were studied by the measurement of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These results indicated that the degree of furfuryl alcohol self-condensation reaction could be totally decreased when hydroxyl methyl furfuryl alcohol was used to replace furfuryl alcohol reacting with tannin under acid condition. Meanwhile, the reaction activity between hydroxy methyl furfuryl alcohol and tannin monomer was higher than that of furfuryl alcohol and tannin monomer. The static bending strength, anchoring strength and water resistance of the particleboard were better than that of the others, while pH value was 2, and the ratio of hydroxyl methyl furfuryl alcohol and tannin was 1:2.
