Abstract:
The change in ecosystem functions of Hengshan Scenic Spot Area from 2000 to 2010 was studied by means of geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) technology. The results showed that the major change in land use during the 10 years was that the land for ecological purpose was converted to nonecological purpose. The vegetation coverage, the net primary productivity of the vegetation, the water retention and soil conservation capacities of the scenic spot area were all decreased. The main reasons to cause the above change included the development of tourism and mining, whereas the reduction of the net primary productivity of the vegetation in this area was partially caused by the meteorological factors.
